I intended to make this thread a lot sooner but, as you all know, I got caught up in some things. ^^ So, we have a stupidly long list of potential theme songs to play behind our movie promo... and we gotta narrow it down a little. So, we're going to sit here and discuss what we think would be the best song for our promo based on our own personal opinion and based on the list provided in this thread. Now, that thread is still open in case anyone wants to add a few songs they think should be considered but let's try and keep it limited since we already have two pages of them... This is just a discussion. Tell us which song you like best and why. be sure to support your decision well with details and opinions referring to the overall feel of the site, the message we want to get out to promo viewers and how viewers will appreciate the promo when they watch it. Please be honest and don't simply agree with the person who posts before you because you don't care. That's not helping anyone... Try not to base your opinions on your personal views of the song. If you don't like Three Days Grace, don't totally ignore all of their songs. Read the lyrics and listen to the music anyway, just to get a full perspective of choices. Even if you don't like it, a particular song might be the best/most descriptive song for the site. Also, try to think of the animators. Don't choose a song with a huge slow part in the middle because it will be a lot of work for Dommy and I to fill that gap with aesthetic images. Other than that... type away. ^^ We wanna hear from you. That means EVERYONE. Even if your character isn't going to be in the promo, give us an opinion anyway.

I don't know if this has been addressed, nor do I really have a say since I won't be the one animating. I'll help with my scene if needed, but for the most part we all have school or work to deal with. (me having both atm)
it takes 1440 frames to make a minute, as 24 frames to a video sec. Of course you'll probably two or three these depending on movement.
An average song is about 3 minutes. I'm thinking the average scene will be about 15-20 seconds depending on complexity. So for each animation... 360-480 frames, again half that for twos, can't really count threes atm.
that's 12, 15 sec shorts for 3 minutes or 9, 20 second shorts.
If there's just going to be a song, it has to cover/go with all the shorts compiled. This means that a song might not be right till the animations are picked. (there's not many atm, so I think we just have to deal with order.)
alright, I'll be back later with something...

I see your point and have recognized that there will be a lot of drawing involved, so I intend to make this promo more like a music video with lots of image flashes and only a few very short animations than an active story with characters having thoughtful conversations with one another and all that.
However, I think it'd be best to choose the song first. For example, River could potentially have a lot of scenes and a lot of images if I just started brainstorming willy-nilly. I could choose to display him in his cage, broken and bloody on the floor while Faust chooses a similarly angsty scene. But then if Jig decides to use a violent blood, blood-thirsty scene, we're not going to find a song that can incorporate all three scenes... or even a fourth. Say Sadae decides on a scene that's happy with her character romping through a field. It's going to be impossible to coordinate them all.
But, if we choose the song first, everyone will have a general idea of the feeling behind the promo. So, for example, if the song Riot is chosen, people will know that we are looking for rebellious, angry fight-type action scenes and will plot based on that general idea.

hmmm, a compiled thing of art relating to the scenes. Like a music driven story board with full color? I could see this working, because then it wouldn't be animation. For the most part we could have a large collab with the art.

That's exactly what I was thinking. That way, almost everyone can be invovled, regardless of their skills as animators, making life for me and Dommie easier. There will still be a few animations in there probably for the sake of visual apeal but the brunt of it should probably still artwork. ;3
But, anyway, back on topic: music peoplez. What do you think?

Hmm.I suggest SliPKnoT Wait and bleed 'Coz if you look at the lryics it has the words; 'I wipe it off the tile, the light is brighter this time Everything is 3-D blasphemy My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up This is not the way I pictured me I can't control my shakes! How the hell did I get here? Something about this, so very wrong I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this Is it a dream or a memory?' it says 'This is not the way i pictured me' kinda relates to changing. I think.

I actually agree with you Toxikch. I like the refrain:
I've felt the hate rise up in me Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves I wander out where you can't see Inside my shell I wait and bleed
It's seems like a perfect description of our characters and their situation in the labs. I particularly like that it ends with the line 'and it waits for you' because, in my vision of the promo, the last two scenes are of a shilouetted character still first by itself then amongst all of our characters in a group shot of sorts with the word "You?" hovering around it somewhere to show viewers that this is an active site that they can join and be a part of.
I can definately picture a video that goes with that song, though the strange, rapid and almost random guitar licks might be a bit annoying... I still think Time of Dying would be a good choice as well though, as well as Riot and Frontline... o.O

If we did Riot, I think we should show a new character for every "If you feel..." bit, as long as it sort of goes along with what it says. Showing how twisted and warped they have become, then maybe fight scenes during the "Let's start a riot" parts.
And Slipknot scares me. *shudders at those masks*

Yeah, I have a good set up in mind should Riot be the song we choose. I like it's rapid pace and quick almost flashy rhythm. It's fast and it'd be easy to run short animations in there along with still images. We'd probably need a lot of them though, since so many scene flashes would imply that we'd need a heck of a lot of pictures.

I didn't realize this, but someone had Distrubed's I'm Alive up. A friend gave me the song a couple days ago. I just started listening to it and things clicked...
The thing I treasure most in life cannot be taken away There will never be a reason why I will surrender to your advice To change myself, I'd rather die Though they will not understand I won't make the greatest sacrifice You can't predict where the outcome lies You'll never take me alive
The thing most our hellions treasure is either their life or revenge, we could show that. They've been at ends with advice, the main none will surrender to the human changing them. (two lines with one stone XD)
Most would rather die then go back, meaning all out battle...maybe. there is no way to see the outcome in truth. It's hellion vs science.
Plus the song is rather mellow and pleasure to the ears to listen to, while still keeping the powerful message.

That's very deep and profound... Despite being the absolute Disturbed nerd I am, I haven't heard I'm Alive yet. *scampers off to youtube to find it*
But, if it's the mellow song I think it is, it might not be our best choice. I think it'd be better to go with a fast-paced song so we don't have to do too much animating (what with only two very busy animators and all). In a fast-paced song like Three Days Grace's Riot, we could simply string a whole bunch of stills together like a fast-moving slide-show. A lot of the image and character details will be lost with such fast transitions but it will be easier on all of us since we have quite a few skilled artists who could pitch in on that note. Plus, Dommie and I would have an easier time animating to a fast song, since each of our little animations would only need to be a few seconds long at the maximum, only to be spliced in between the still images.
My current favorites are Slipknot's Wait and Bleed, Three Days Grace's Riot, and Pillar's Frontline. Frontline's lyrics particularly hit me real hard, they're clear and easily understood while keeping a brisk pace to the song and communicating a clear message of all out war. It immediately makes me think of Jig and the song itself is most inspiring... but it's really slow toward the middle and the pace could be much much faster. I also like Three Days Grace's Time of Dying. The lyrics in that one are simply perfect for our hellhounds, both the ones out of the labs and seeking revenge and the ones still trapped within. I mean, the song opens up with "On the ground I lay, motionless in pain." How does that not remind you of every hellhound here... except maybe Smaug. If there's anything our hellions have in common, it's pain... but the song isn't as fast paced as I'd like.
This is going to be a tough decision to be made... >.>

I suggest Three Days Grace's 'The animal I have Become". The song itself is paced decently quick, the lyrics relate more to the hellions in the labs, especially the first part and the ending lyrics of the song.
I can't escape this hell So many times I've tried But i'm still caged inside Somebody get me through this nightmare I can't control myself
So what if you can see the darkest side of me? No one will ever change this animal I have become Help me believe it's not the real me Somebody help me tame this animal I have become Help me believe it's not the real me Somebody help me tame this animal (This animal I have become)
But thats just my opinion.

I dunno about Animal I have Become. While I agree it fits the hellhounds in the lab because they've all been turned into something they don't want to be, it seems more like a sympathetic almost emo kind of song and that's not the kind of promo I envisioned. It seems to me like this site (overall) is based more on the idea of rising up and taking revenge... anger, rage, that sort of thing.
But it, like every other song people mentioned shall be considered... ^^
Come on people! This is supposed to be a discussion but so far, I've been the one doing most of the talking. Speak up and let's talk about it, come to an agreement together as a whole site. So far, I've got a list of songs particular people liked but that's not what I'm looking for here. We already have a list of songs. Now we're trying to reach an agreement about which one we'll be using in the promo, and I emphasize the word WE. This site is far too individualized, with small groups of people focusing only on each other and no one else. Let's break such a mold and TALK here. Jig, Faust, Dommie, Sadae, Morsus... are you out there?
I want this promo to mean something to everyone, not just the artists. We're all part of this site, we're all in this together here. Let's act like it shall we?

Personally I have absolutely not a clue about what music we should use. I listen to compleeeettteeeely different music than you guys, (which is just fine! :3 ) and I'd be perfectly happy to see what you guys come up with. That's why I haven't said anything here.

Having made a few vids which I think other have and made one for a class assignment in one of my college classes I had to have all the art first. I know for animations themselves you need the dialogue first, but if you're using stills you can compile them into the order then play around with different songs to see what works best.
Trial and error thing. We can say something sounds like it goes, but you don't know till you see it together. ^^; *needs to put up a question about something elsewhere but doesn't have time tonight.*

Excuses excuses excuses. X3
Dommy, we're trying to find a song that fits the site best. Even if it's not Three Days Grace or Pillar or Slipknot or anything like that, throw it out there anyway. It's not about the song style, it's about the song's message. Besides, the reason we put up the links to the Youtube videos is so that people who don't normally listen to/haven't heard those songs can hear them and gain a general opinion about them, and then bring that opinion here.
All I'm saying is that there is no good reason to simply stay out of the discussion. I'm trying to make sure we can ALL agree on this song, so that EVERYONE has at least a small part in the creation of this promo thingy. If you don't listen to the types of music already suggested, then suggest your own and we can discuss that. I'm not giving you the opportunity to give your opinion, I'm asking- no, literally begging you people for it.
~
Malice, I see what you're saying and you may be right, that might be a better way to create a personal video, but this isn't a personal video. If we get all the pictures first and then put them together to some song or another, only the person who's putting the images together will have any say in what particular song will be played in the background, know what I mean? This way, everyone gets to agree on a song and then the images are put together to go with it...And, if we don't have enough images or we have too many fight scenes or whatever the problem may be, we can just draw some more until our video fits the bill. ;3

"flat on the floor" by nickelback short, fast, angry, fits
Not like I need to depend upon anyone Since I can see the lack of need for me to be here at all One more anthem for the know it all I won't be standing up for long I better learn how to crawl Learn how to crawl
In ten minutes I'll be laying out flat on the floor
Like I need to defend my own innocence So what, I did it, I admit it, and I'm pleading the 5th One more anthem for the know it all I won't be standing up for long I better learn how to crawl Learn how to crawl
In ten minutes I'll be laying out flat on the floor
8 minutes from losing it a little bit 5 minutes your description might be starting to fit 3 to go and I'm forgetting all that I've ever known I won't be standing up for long I better learn how to crawl
Not like I need to depend upon anyone Since I can see the lack of need for me to be here at all One more anthem for the know it all I won't be standing up for long I better learn how to crawl Learn how to crawl
In ten minutes I'll be laying out flat on the floor I can't stand up at all Can't see nothing at all In ten minutes I'll be laying out flat on the floor

*Pops in*
I've been meaning to get my say in here. XD
Personally, I really think that Riot would be the best for our lovely little abominations. It has a nice fast beat, an angry tone to it, and it really does get the message across that the singer is pissed. It ties in with Jiggy's whole revolt and stuff.
Plus I just love that song.
