My first attempt at shading, and drawing a large cat. She turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. What do you think? What can I do to improve the shading and the cat?

This is actually really good for your first shading attempt. ^^ However, you should really try using references when you draw or shade. You'll find there are a lot more details within the lion, things like muscle tone and folds in the fur, even when you ignore the fur texture itself. Plus, you need to find yourself a single light source. Over the body, it seems like your light source is from the back but when you look at the legs, the shadows are on the back, implying that the light is coming from the front. Just try to be weary of that and have all of your shadows go in one direction. ;3
But this is still a nice piece. The shading is soft yet tangible. I like that. ^^

Ya, I havn't quite gotten up to the detail of muscle and stuff, I'm not that good yet ^^;;;
But I figured the light was above, so I need to figure out how to make it look as such.
And thank you! I'm rather proud of it myself.
