On a whim, I thought of this. I've grown up on "classical" music, and it has definitely become my life, but it's not all classical music that I like either. For instance, I find that I can't STAND Haydn (sorry man!). But at the same time there are just SO many pieces that I just LOVE and that you also can relate to. Everyone can, really, because it is so much from the soul.
For me, it's composers like Rachmaninoff, Liszt, Hanson, Dvorak, Debussy, Stravinsky, some Beethoven, some Mozart, and I love the Baroque composers like Bach, Handel and Albinoni. But I don't like EVERY one of their pieces. Some just call to me, others don't. I'm a pianist so I pick what I want to play, and it's always got some deeply romantic/dramatic/meaningful thing about it.
My mom just founded a Baroque chamber orchetra and they had their premiere yesterday night. It was a real hit and we brought in $922 dollars in DONATIONS.
So, I know some pieces have to call to you guys. What are they? Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Bach? Which ones - I'm really curious! Be free here, and honest!
Meanwhile, I have some (orchestral) music to recommend to you guys:
Dvorak - New World Symphony (very famous very awesome piece)
Albinoni - Adagio in G minor for organ and strings (this piece is KILLER beautiful)
Rachmaninoff - Piano Concerto No. 2 (all of his piano concertos are amazing)
Stravinsky - The Firebird (this piece takes a bit of a trained ear, but it is really completely awesome)
Rachmaninoff - Symphonic Dances (one of my very most favorite pieces ever)
Howard Hanson - Symphony Romantics No. 2 (VERY romantic)
Saint-Saens - Danse Macabre (very cool demonic piece)
Borodin - In the Steppes of Central Asia (Borodin always has beautiful clear melodies)
And the list goes on... (I'll update it as I think of more)
So keep an open mind and check out a few of these, and tell me what ones maybe that I haven't even listed that move you in some way. I've quite curious! I feel like anyone can connect with this music because as I said earlier, it comes directly from the soul.
Thanks, guys!
