Personality: Arktos is a watcher, an observer. He looks upon the world with curious eyes, taking in every detail. He knows many things, but says not a word of them. He would rather people find out for themselves. Arktos, though silent for the most part, speaks up when he feels it is necessary or when he feels it is right and what he has to say should probably be heard. For the most part, he seems unemotional and, because of this, he bay come off as rather lacking in the mental department. He can be both a leader and a follower, passive and aggressive. He will take orders when needed and give them when he deems it is fit. He is flexible in his thinking and responds well to new situations. He is surprised by very little anymore. Arktos can also be confident, but not to the point of being prideful. He knows where his limits are. He takes each day one step at a time, hoping tomorrow will be better. Though, he is not entirely stone. He has a soft spot for insects (Except for ants. He hates ants.)
Arktos appritiates what he has and what he receives. He values trust and loyalty high above all other traits.
Appearance:
Arktos is about average height and weight for the type of bear he supposedly once was. His thick fur is a dark chocolate in color that fades as it reaches his belly, becoming a tawny grey. His nose is black. His eyes are a deep blue. His mouth seemed to be wider than normal on either side of his face, but the edges are crudely stitched up. There is a chip out of his left ear. Though, one of the most noticeable features he has is a red stripe that runs from above his eye, jutting down and over, to the bottom and back of his jaw.
He wears a rusty bronze colored collar with a broken chain. It jingles irritatingly as he walks. His left arm bears two wide scars that he received in a fight along with the notch in his ear. On his right foreleg and his left rear leg he wears bandages. Not tied tightly, they often fall off, exposing never healing wounds caused by acid.
On his back he bears five open holes in his back. They do not go all the way through, but go in at an angle, through his body. they are kept open by hollow tubes. These tubes curve around inside him and poke their way into his lungs. They used to function as an air intake system for experiments. As well as the holes in his back, he has tubes that encircle his belly. (No one knows quite what these are for.) He has winding scars that run down from each of the five holes in his back. The first three meet with the scars from the tubes in his belly, but the other two just trail off.
Arktos has very big claws, mainly because he is a bear and bears have big claws to begin with. (Though, normal bear claws are mostly just used for digging.) His are semi retractable because of a mils amount of cat DNA in him. Aswell, he is horribly muscular. He is thick and his limbs are made for the heavy load of his body.
It is quite a sight to see him lumbering about.
[On an odd note, he also has a bar code on his tongue.]
Pros and Cons of being Arktos:
Arktos is tremendously strong. He, literally, has the power of a bear. His claws, while a bit dull, make grew weapons. He has perfect smell, but his hearing is sub par and his eyes, while not blind, are not his strongest sense. He also has cardiac problems and his liver is almost in failure. Three of his joints (Both forelegs and his right rear leg) are in very bad shape. They constantly pop out of socket. His last joint was completely replaced and is titanium.
Ironical, though he has the tubes that go into his lungs, apart from a little drainage and some irritable wheezing, he has a rather strong respiratory system that seems to have adapted to the changes better than any other part of him.
Arktos is also tortuously slow. He is unable to walk at a fast pace due to his joints and heart as well as his large talon-like claws. He cannot strain himself too much. This let him gain patience though.
One of the best things he has going for him... is his adorable fluffy tail that somehow came out unchanged by all the experimentations. Infact, it might just be cuter (He does accept this as a good feature of himself. He thinks it's great.) xD
History:
Arktos was born in the wild. Though he knew his siblings had died during a previous winter, he did not know his mother very well. Before he got much of a chance to get to know her, he was captured and taken away. His mother was sedated and left to fend for herself. Exported to a small, but depressingly far away zoo, he was placed in conditions he was unused to. Everything seemed fake to him. Even though the people treated him fairly and without incident, he felt they were putting on a play, as if they were only actors. He did not appreciate this new environment or the counterfeit habitat, but he had to live with it into his young adulthood.
One dreary day, he was loaded into a cage and sent away, apparently meant to be transferred to another zoo, but his transport was intercepted and he was taken to a wholly new place, a lab. Having been sedated at the time, he woke up in a small, dark pen and immediately found he was someplace he was not supposed to be. He discovered that there were people here too, but they seemed a different sort, putting on a sinister play for him, more of a tragedy than anything else. The first couple of weeks were spent in darkness and isolation. Unfortunately for him, his fate was inescapable. After a time, a blinding light flashed on and he was introduced to creatures he had never seen before. He was curious. He wondered what they could be and where they came from.
In a matter of days the first torturous experiments began. The sheer pain and deprivation was indescribable, later, he could hardly remember anything from that time. The only thing that he could perceive was a creature that always seemed to be with him, a dog of sorts called Eva. He became great friends with Eva and grew attached to her.
As the days past everything seemed to grow worse and he made a pledge with Eva to escape, free themselves from the torment. Having planned for hopeless amounts of time, they finally made a break for it and surged free into the wild once more.
