[[...Personality...]]
Stereotype: Nefarious (seriously, that's his stereotype)
Neffy is.... well, Neffy is nefarious. I know that might sound weird but it's true. Dictionary.com says that Nefarious is a word in the English language used to describe someone or something as being extremely wicked or villainous, and Neffy is just that: extremely wicked and villianous... and it's pretty obvious from the moment you meet him.
His face is always curled into a disgusting grin, his eyes always narrowed insidiously and a sly tone to his deep voice. He's always thinking, always planning, always staring. He's rather creepy actually, the way he almost seems to stare through you instead of at you, like he can see your very weaknesses and is grinning because he knows how to exploit them. Now, he obviously can't literally see into people's souls, that's a little too far beyond the reaches of reality, but Nefarious gets as close as any mortal can. He's extremely clever with an intuitive eye that even Sherlock Holmes could be proud of. He notices everything, sees and understands every nervous twitch, every side glance and shift in weight. He studies the creatures he talks to, knows and understands them before they even realize he's up to something. Not only is keen of eye and ear, but he's quite stealthy about it.
It's a rather deadly combination when you think about it. Not only can Neffy figure out all he'd ever have to know about someone he's speaking with but the one he's speaking with will know nothing of his knowledge. he's very good at mind manipulation and psychology and, to an unsuspecting victim, only seems curiously interested in the affairs of others. In fact, could he stop grinning for a second, he'd probably seem like a good fellow to passers-by, genuinely concerned for the well-being of others and always out to help his fellow canine, an over all good trusting friend. But Nefarious is the very opposite, the kind of trickster to gain your trust and then rape you for everything you have while your guard is down. He's quite patient and can put on a good show in the quest to get what he wants, able to pretend to be friends with others for years at a time should their possessions be valuable enough.. or should he find himself bored enough.
In short, do not trust this guy. He's an amazing actor and though he almost always seems to be genuine and kind, he pretty obviously isn't half of the time. Should a better opportunity arise, he'd switch loyalties in an instant, clever enough to avoid most consequences. He's a backstabber, a liar, a conman and trickster, stealthy enough to sneak away from fights and physical confrontation. However, should he ever be backed into a corner, stared down by a larger more strongly willed opponent, he'd be a sitting duck. Usually, he can smooth talk his way from most fights and conflicts, distracting the assailant long enough to literally disappear from the scene. He can walk almost silently and is very observant of small nooks and holes in which he may hide in. So, getting him into a corner is easier said than done.
In short, run away. Just run away. Don't talk to him, don't look at him, don't bother with him. Run away...
Quirks: He always flicks his right ear whenever he's plotting or planning something. Usually, it's only a momentary flick but other times, he'll just hold it facing sideways. Also, since he lived near the site of the demolished labs, he was exposed to significant amounts of radiation. The radiation gives his eyes a perpetual glow so, no matter where he goes or what he's doing, his eyes are always glowing, though it's so dim it can only really be seen at night. The same glow applies to his teeth and claws, but those glow even more dimly than his eyes. However, it's quite the creepy sight when only flashing teeth and narrowed eyes stare out of the shadows at you. Now, this radiation has also weakened his bones and destroyed much of his muscle mass but the glowing is the only thing anyone really pays attention to. Oh, that and it has caused a few stomach ulcers so he sometimes has blood dripping from his mouth, another plus two on the creepy factor.
Strengths: Extremely intelligent and observant, extremely good eyesight and very good hearing due to his over-sized ears, very agile and a pretty good sprinter, patient, calm and relatively laid-back, probably the best strategist you'll ever come across, intimidating appearance, very suave, easy to trust, an extremely good actor, very knowledgeable when it comes to anatomy and knows exactly where a bite will hurt most and where it will kill easiest, stealthy and secretive, always keeps his truest motives hidden.
Faults: Pretty scary and not exactly the most friendly dog you'll ever come across, weak physically and easily bested in a fight, can't exactly run for miles (though I don't want to go so far as to say he has terrible endurance), noose around his neck could potentially be used to suffocate him, glowing eyes and teeth can sometimes give away his position, never truly trustworthy, switches loyalties on a dime, greedy, will do anything to get what he wants, never afraid to cause pain or kill (even if that pain is inflicted upon himself), physically sickly, poor healer and easily scarred or worse, unapproachable, infamous for his back-stabbing...
Voice: Sort of deep, smooth and almost echoing in a way. Think of Scar from the Lion King.
[[...History...]]
Nefarious was born in a small litter of three or four, the smallest of a clutch of males. His parents weren't evil, his childhood was pretty straight forward. He was looked after pretty well, getting a taste of both sides of the railroad tracks: the wild of his father and the domesticity of his mother. But, perhaps that was the pup's undoing. His father taught him savagery, to kill or be killed, the way of the wolf. His mother was a gentle sheepdog whose life was only to serve humans in the villages and to demand care and sustenance from them. This left Neffy torn between two totally different worlds, where his mind began to unhinge.
He belonged to a kind scientist back then, a kind woman who was all up in arms about new experimental break-throughs that could help them find an escaped killer, some big bad doggy named Jiggsaw. Nefarious didn't care much about that but he'd grown up accepting and even respecting humans and he obeyed the woman's wishes. Together, with plenty of other dogs, the two of them would hunt down other animals to be used in experiments, as well as trying to track the elusive Jiggsaw, only to come up short every time. Nefarious grew irritated with the monotony of his life at the time, growing tired of the constant confinement his pathetic life allowed. More importantly, he was getting fed up with his neurotic owner, who was constantly blabbing about biology and anatomy and what have you. The wolfdog had had enough.
In an extremely clever display of wit, he managed to lead the woman in a rather fatal encounter with the Indoc dires, returning to the village alone and completely unharmed. The female scientist was never heard from again...
Suddenly, Nefarious was a wanted dog. He was the only creature who ever lived with, talked with or even listened to that particular scientist, a very well respected one in her own right. However, the local police were just a little too slow and the local fighting circuit got a hold of him first. They automatically assumed that he must've killed his owner and against assumed he'd be an excellent fighter. He wasn't, but he continues to humor the humans even to this day, wasting his time tricking them and taking their food and valuables for trade with the wildlife.
Once the ring-leaders found Neffy to be a totally useless fighter and a rather handy thief, they let him be, sometimes letting him meander around the arena. They've noticed that he had a knack for working up the other fighting animals, probably by getting on their nerves in some animalistic way or another, and he makes for good breeding stock. Sometimes they even give the poor dog a fight or two, but he generally just wanders around. The scientists in the village have given up the chase for him as well, finding that he is simply too crafty to be caught. Too many times, he's been right in front of their nets, every single one of those times he managed to escape capture. No one even knows how he does it, but he does. So, there isn't really a huge fuss about him anymore. The humans have long since grown tired of the chase and now let the wolfdog do as he pleases, knowing quite well that they can't stop him.
The wild animals, however, hold Nefarious in higher regard. He's very good at stealing stuff from the humans, anything from food to jewelry to clothing and he often uses these items in gaining the trust of others. or, often times, he will trade them for hunted goods. Being such a small animal and living on his own, Neffy can't hunt very well and, though a few people in the village put food out for him, dog food is disgusting so he often trades valuables with the timber wolves or random individuals who can hunt in exchange for their services. He's a quite the barterer actually.
So, almost everyone who is anyone knows Nefarious, or has at least seen him around. However, few creatures know much more than his appearance and the sound of his voice... except the Alpha male of the dire wolves, Torrent, who knows all about that incident with the scientist... but that's a tale he'll have to tell...
