It's so hot... The young femme let her tounge roll out of her maw, breathing heavily as she lowered her head and rested the large curved horns against her neck. Eyelids dropped to narrow openings as the hellhound kept at the same dragging pace she had taken hours before when the sun had been but at the horizon, streaking its colorful rays out over the desert sky. But what was there to look for if everthing appeared to be the same? The same sand and cloudless blue sky...
"Ooohhfff!" The sand caved in under her tan paws, dropping the young hellhound into a fifteen foot deep pit, sand running over her sides as she took a moment to recollect herself and stand, silver eyes staring out at the rim of the hole.
"W-well..." She stuttered, still a bit shaky from the fall, her tail wrapping around her body as she glanced around to see how much space she had to manuever around. There was only room for maybe another hellhound, about another her size, but the chances of seeing another in this desolate place was low... very low.
Flexing her muscles, she crouched down then took a half-run, her back paws hitting the ground heavily as she flung herself towards the top of the pit, her paws touched the wall, meerly centimeters from the top. She hit the ground, her rear leg slipping on the soft sand, making her side fall to the floor. The young hellhound shook her head, and muttered a small groan. How was she going to get out of this one?

Sand...
What exactly was sand? The hound mindlessly wondered to himself, his eyes focused downward blankly, their blind pupil-less gaze dissecting the sand beneath his paws. Though unable to see the grains of sand, he felt them tenderly on the bottoms of his sensitive pawpads, grinding together and between his toes in an itchy irritating fashion. The head of the individual grains penetrated his short crimson pelt , his immense weight causing his legs to sink slightly as he trudged about.
What was sand?
His mother had never cared enough to answer such a curious question so the brute merely pondered it himself, head tilted to the side in a curious manner. Small holes in the sides of his muzzle, visible through gaping slits in his skin, flared to life, reading the hot temperature of the rolling sands and allowing him to "see" the landscape around him... more or less... It rolled like water in massive hills like dirt, it itched like fleas and was hot like fire.
So what exactly was sand?
With his attention trained up toward the fuzzy horizon, the horribly scarred creature was paying his foot falls no attention at all... that was until a step fell upon air rather than sand. With a startled "roowf", he fell quite suddenly into the pit, after scrambling a bit at the hole's edge and finally hitting the bottom head first when the light sand gave way beneath his massive size. His lower jaw collided first, the rest of his massive form remaining in a comically raised position, lengthy crimson tail falling limply over his form like a streamer...
And like that he remained for some few moments, before managing to regain his barrings and re-situate himself into a shaky and rather confused standing positon...
"What the hell...?"

A started cry broke the silence which hung in the air, causing the female to lift her head just as a wave of sand hit her in the face. Closing her eyes at that very moment, she missed the comical position the brute had taken when he fell.
"Yipe!" The horned hellhound tugged at her tail, pressed under the male's heavy body. Ears tilted to the sides in defense, and when the other finally stood up, she tucked her tail to the side and slightly between her legs in a submissive stature. It only took her a second to realize that she was trapped with another hellhound, and what was worse, she didn't know him or how dangerous he was.
"Uh..." Her mouth fumbled with the words. Instead of trying to communicate, as it would possibly anger him, she flattened herself against the wall, trying hard not to touch his body. However it was extremely hard with the limited space in the sand pit, and her striped pelt grazed over his side as she attempted to move away from his head and torso. From the look of his fangs and his unusual extra limbs, she didn't want to be anywhere near him.

Giving his surroundings a quick glance, the female was fortunate in that the male seemed to be staring everywhere except where she was cowering. It wasn't that he was unaware of her presence, it was more... No, no. It was because it was unaware. His ears knew she was there, the heat sensing pits on the sides of his muzzle knew she was there but somewhere between his sensory organs and his brain... nothing. So he just didn't notice, very calmly gazing around his side of the hole blindly.
As far as he was concerned, the small space was an improvement. It was cooler, much cooler by the looks of things than the scorching hot desert sands. However, as he continued to stare about, studying the heat and temperature of everything around him, a rather large very nearby heat spot made him curious and, like a light switch, the information his ears and nostrils had been trying to send were suddenly being registered once again...
There's another hound in the hole with him...
Surprised slightly, the large brute merely stared in her direction, his pupil-less gaze unable to recognize her coloration, fur texture, or anything for that matter. However, his nostrils told him she was female and the images created by the temperature differentials were enough to get a vague picture of her. She was large, easily his height but nowhere near his weight... and she was cowering before his mass. She feared him...
"How lovely..."
Grinning in his typical malicious fashion, the brute shied away a bit, leaning up against the opposite side of the pit in order to give both himself and the female a small amount of personal space, though his gaze remained focused on her uselessly, ears perked with interest...
"I'm sorry. I do hope I wasn't intruding on anything... important."

Well... at least the brute was being considerate, however she noticed, he didn't seem to have seen her before when he glanced around and only sensed her afterwards. Either this male was blind, or he lacked some of his ability to see. At least that was what she could tell... If he could see, shouldn't he have seen her when he looked around at his surroundings? And how would he have fell down here if he could see? Ok... that made her seem way out of it when she actually was the first to fall.
His voice and the way that he smiled, so maliciously... it sent shivers down her spine. With what little light which came from the mouth of the pit showed his coloration and made the long claw-like limbs emerging from his chest appear even more vicious than they had looked before. Scars and wounds gave him a rough appearance, adding to the things that worried her.
Taking the words he had spoke as a question that needed answering, though it probably didn't mean such a thing, the female hellhound placed her rump on the ground, tail tucked around her paws if he decided to snap it off for the nervous flicking the tip had started to take.
"N-no... of course not. What could I be doing in a pit in the sand? I simply fell..." She didn't dare say that he had fell into it also, he could tell for himself. If she would have said it, she feared he would get angry.

Pointed ears perked strangely at the female's words, the brute's gaze shifted about their surroundings yet again. So they were in a pit. That would explain the fall, the sand and the suddenly cooler temperatures he was seeing via the heat pits. On the surface, the ground and sand dunes showed up as bright reds, oranges and yellows, very hot temperatures. But here, everything was cooler colors like greens and blues, with a few spots of yellow here and there. The female was luckily easy to spot against the much cooler background, since she showed up as a bright yellow and red form apparently sitting a short ways away, suggesting that the pit was quite small...
Staring upward toward the pit's mouth, the hound let his thoughts calm down for a moment, staring into space silently for a few moments before finally speaking again...
"I see... Well, isn't that a funny piece of irony, the two of us falling in here like this...?"
Shifting his blind gaze downward now, he shifted about in the small space, being sure to keep his tail on the ground to avoid whacking the poor female with it while he found a comfortable sitting position...
"What are the odds the only two hounds in the desert would end up in the same hole?"
Trailing off a bit at the end of his last statement-like question, he brute let the grin spread slowly across his features again, his eyes focused on the fae's shape blankly...

The odds? The odds were very low indeed. Possibly nothing more than a slimmer, like one grain of sand in the entire desert... ok maybe that was a bad comparision... He could have seen her, him being twenty feet above her and peering down at her in a hole, that in itself held more odds and made her felt relatively safer if he had been above instead of her inside this tomb of a pit.
Tanned ears flicked back, flattening against the sides as she lowered her head even lower as she felt his lifeless gaze on her body. Could he see her? Was he able to see the cowering female as she submitted in the hopes of not being torn to shreds and left to the crawlers of the night? Anything was possibly better than having to sit under his malicious grin.
"... Nexus... my name is Nexus." The female spoke lowly, raising her dial slowly, the tips of her horns actually running lines against the wall of sand without her knowing of it until some grains fell upon her nose and she sneezed. Her tongue stuck out of her mouth for a second, licking her dry lips before retreating back behind her jaws.

Leaning forward a bit, the imposing hound seemed to be studying the female with his eyes as she continued to shy away from him, his brow furrowed and the black orbs narrowed. However, closing the gap between them only made it easier for the heat pits on the front of his face to pick up her body temperature. When close enough, they were sensitive enough to pick up the differences in the temperature of every single hair upon the finest of pelts... but rarely did he ever get so close. no, this time the hound settled for a distance just over a foot, which was enough to see outlines of her facial expressions and the general positioning of her body.
Such observation made him wonder what color she was...
But the thought didn't last very long, since her words were enough to keep his mind on track as she revealed her name to him... and an interesting name it was. It reminded the male hound of something but he couldn't remember exactly what so the thought was pretty much ignored...
There was an awkward silence after Nexus spoke, the brute choosing not to respond at first. But after what probably seemed like an eternity under his blank empty gaze, he finally sat up suddenly, leaning his back against the far wall in a very casual sitting position...
"Well, Nexus, I have a question for you..."
He paused, glancing up toward the sky for a moment before lowering his gaze to some random spot to his left...
"Am I... scary? Tell me the truth as I am insanely curious.... Do I make you afraid? Does my mere presence make your body quiver and your teeth quake and chatter? Does my gaze freeze the blood in your veins and the sight of my fangs make your skin numb?"
Despite the dark questions he fired at the cowering fae, the crimson hound spoke in a generally calm, curious and light-hearted manner, even daring to use the appendages protruding from his chest like hands and making elaborate motions both toward himself and toward her with them to add emphasis to certain words. But he stopped them just as suddenly as he started them, looking up with an oddly amused expression on her face...
"Oh dear, I suppose that was more than a question, now wasn't it? I do hope you're not overwhelmed by it all of a sudden..."

Apparently the tanned female had never heard of such questions spoken by another before, at least none that she can recall as disturbing as this. What he asked was undoubtfully true in nearly every aspect, though in changes of it also. She feared him, yes, for he was large and strong, able to catch and tear her to shreds if he so wished. His fangs were large, almost like the long hallow fangs of serpents, rather made her skin crawl then numb into nothingness. The gaze was completely true, it did make her blood freeze when he stared down at her. But was he scary? Did this creature, with his extra mantis-like limbs that moved this way and that, scare her? Oh, hell yeah! She was frightened of basically every canine around, hellhound or otherwise.
Her head dipped as she tried to regain some dignity by appearing at least more respectful than fearful for her life. "Of course you, do. What sane hound wouldn't believe such things?" It was a retorical question, not needed answering. Sweeping her head to the wall of which lay by her side, she looked it over, calculating before she stuck up a paw and made a long line in the sand, the excess falling to the floor in a small pile. Granted and idea, she glanced over at her male 'companion' and decided it better to leave him be. Sticking her paw back up, she begun to dig slowly into the wall of the pit, careful not to dig too much in one area which would result in them being buried alive.
After a few moments, her leg grew tired, and she sat down, staring at the hole she had made. Its depth in the wall was only about four feet, not very impressive at all. At this rate, it would take her a few days making a hole to the top of the pit, and the risks were greater for it too. However, if she didn't get out of this sand trap, she would die of starvation if the male didn't kill her first. Averting her gaze to the crimson hellhound, Nexus turned to face him.
"Do you have any good plans to get yourself out of here? Or would you like to help me dig a tunnel out?" She asked politely, tail wrapping itself around her lower body. It ever hurt to ask... right?
[Ack! Sorry I'm late with this! School stole all my juices, I havent even been able to draw!]

The heat. With artic wolf DNA or not, he was still predominately a reptilian kind of creature, and there was certainly nothing better to him than these scorching temperatures. Wether it was purposeful or not, he was built for this kind of climate. Some accused this statement as being very questionable, considering the creature was black, but it took such a large beast a very long time to warm up - hence his awful weakness for cold.
As he strolled through the desert, the grand beast soaked up the fabulous rays. He was quite content by his lonesome, though a little disappointed that the scenery didn't have more to offer to him. He had not been an escapee of the lab for long and it was all so new to him. The world outside was more complex than he could have ever imagined, yet it was beautiful. Beautiful to annihilate, that was.
...But he would get to that later. Just as he continued his walk, he felt his hind leg slip. Growling at the sudden gravitational pull of his leg, he remarked the sand pit below. Using his awkwardly sized claws to help him leap upwards, he managed to pull himself out of the sinking hole. That was a new experience. Snorting loudly, he cursed beneath his breath. But then something else caught his eye. Others; like him.
"Who are you?" he asked sternly. He'd seen weird before, so he couldn't say it was a surprise to see such odd creatures. The lab was a breeding ground for the bizarre, so it wasn't like anything would truly faze him. The beast held his ground, standing with his feet pressed firmly together. One of his eyes wandered a bit, however, still wary of the sand pit and if it would decided to try and suck him again. Maybe it was a bit silly for such a strong animal to be worried about something as dumb as a sand pit, but he certainly found it weirder than anything he was used to seeing.
